Making progress...

So, I'm making some progress on Maureen's studio apartment, despite having a 3 hour after school class on using the US Library of Congress to teach primary sources, (don't ask...it's not all that interesting) plus needing to read, and correct, 30 overly dramatic narratives written by budding 13 year old authors, most of which center on plots featuring zombies.

Here's where we are at so far...

Finished painting the walls and ceilings.  The bathroom and bedroom areas are painted in Maureen's favorite color, a very soft pink.  The walls enclosing the bathroom are slightly angled, so that you can see inside.  (important to a future story line)  I haven't decided what type of door to use.  It's too narrow for a regular door.  Thinking some type of curtain...maybe cloth...maybe beaded.  What do you think?

The other side of the studio houses the kitchen and dining area.  I had originally planned on  papering those walls, but they were in such poor shape, the bumps and lumps left shadows on the wall.  And that's bad when you need to take photos with diffused lighting.  Instead, I used a sheet of white tile I had on hand.  I rather like the way it turned out, and it really makes the red appliances "pop".
Need some cute prints on the wall, and of course, a lovely Last Supper photo.

Still need to make some new frames and trim for the windows.  The ones that came with the house are too badly damaged to use, so I think I will use card stock instead.  Have to try it out first.
(Although I wish I had finished the bathroom window BEORE I put the walls in place.  That was dumb, dumb, dumb!  Now the job is twice as difficult.)  Once I finish the windows, they will have half curtains that will allow plenty of natural light.  (again, important to the story line...hint, hint, hint)

Can't wait to set this scene.  Should be a very cute Valentine's Day post.

Until this weekend,

Vicki  aka  Madame Mystery

    1. Hi Debbie,

Yes, I'm leaning toward beads myself. I hope I have some that are small enough in my stash of craft supplies.

I'm excited about this next post. It's my first attempt at writing classic romance, and I so want to do right by these characters. Let me know what you think.

    1. Hi Maria,

Thanks! I think I will go with the beads in the doorway. I think it will be a cozy space that will reflect Miss Maureen's personality.

  5. Madame Mystery.....you just amaze me. I know how hard you work in the classroom. Can't believe you still have energy to work on your dollhouses. Everything looks great.
