My Day Job...

Yours truly as the Evil Queen from Snow White, with my good friend and teaching partner, Donna, as "Granny" from Little Red Riding Hood
So...as I've mentioned before, I am a full time teacher, part time author.  And when I'm not writing for this blog, or chasing the "book fantasy", I am writing for my students.  Today was our 2nd Annual 8th Grade Live Mystery Event.  I wrote the story premise, and developed the characters for a "Whodunit" style mystery based on popular fairy tale and children's book characters.  Each student (29 of them) went into this story with the motive, means, and opportunity to have committed the scandalous murder of 'Ole King Cole.  My good friend and teaching partner, Donna, is our Jr. High Science teacher.  She creatively teaches a very intensive 5 week course on lab forensics, while I handle the literary end of the whole mystery concept.

Part live theater, and part science class, this event was 8 weeks in the making.  It was great to see the kids so engaged and excited, and it made all the hard work truly worthwhile.  Some days this job is awesome.  Today was one of those days!

Just thought I'd share a little more about who I am when I'm not living in Dollyville.  Thanks again for supporting my forever writing dream.

Don't mess with the Evil Queen!

  2. *GASP* You DON'T live in Dollyville?!?

You looked great, your costume turned out really well. So, who killed Old King Cole? Or are they still in the lab? I'm DYING to find out! (LOL..maybe I should have been the Old King.) ttyl, B

    1. Hi B!
Actually my mind is forever focused on the "goings on" in Dollyville. So much so, that in the last 3 weeks, I have fallen off the treadmill, walked into a door, and "wonked" my head off the car door so hard I developed black eyes and needed a CT scan. I have to stop writing dialogue in my head when I should be paying attention to something else.

As to your questions about the murder...

'Ole KIng Col was murdered by Cinderella and Prince Charming over money. The Fairy Godmother was their accomplice. All three had set up a secret account in the Grand Caymans. LOL
We had a blast, and I loved wearing the costume. (Which just tells you how weird I am) The event was highly successful, and I can't wait to see the articles that two local papers are doing on the lesson plan.
      Thanks for taking a peek,
      Vicki

Los niños tuvieron un gran tiempo, y aprendieron bastante acerca de utilizar el cerebro para resolver los problemas. ¡Gracias por tomar una mirada! Véale el sábado,

The kids had a great time, and learned quite a bit about solving problems by using their brain.
      Thanks for taking a peek!

    1. Hi Marisa,
It really was a great day. Kids are still a buzz today about the whole thing, and the 7th graders are anticipating what we'll come up with for their mystery next year. Little do they know...I already have an idea in mind. ; )

Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. I certainly appreciate it!
